Autism Treatment Biomedical Treatments for Adults With Autism

I would like to talk a little bit about something with respects to adults who are on the Autism spectrum. The issue is the word "cure" that has been used within the biomedical community for several years. Not all doctors use the word cure but also some individuals who use the word cure as a goal or potential for those with Autism. I understand that the use of this word has created controversy and/or sparked anger within our Autism community, especially from adults who have Autism. I want to state my perspective clearly, I have never used the term "cure" in any of my dialog regarding the biomedical treatments for Autism. While I have seen people "recover" from the underlying medical issues they were dealing with, the term "cure" implies a complete change of the underlying personality or the issues that are occurring in someone with Autism. I choose not to use that word and can certainly understand the frustration or disagreem...

Autism Supplements Treatment - Brain Chemistry Imbalances

Brain chemical support is a target therapy for many psychiatric or neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, as well as Bipolar Depression or Schizophrenia. Autism treatment is no different. In autism, including those with various spectrum issues such as attention deficit, sensory processing and/or speech language delay or pervasive development disorder supplement treatment can help improve an individual's ability to function more optimally. The following list of supplements I have as autism treatments for years in my practice to help support healthy brain chemistry. This is not imply that these following supplements are the only things available for brain chemistry support, but these often show nice benefits with respects to improved attention, focusing, and overall cognitive skills. Each supplement is unique and often they work synergistically to provide optimal results: Nutritional Lithium - micro-mineral involved...

Autism Treatment - Causes of Regression

I want to cover the issue of regression, and particularly since the holidays are over, the issue of regression after the holidays. There are several children that I see in my practice who have been very impacted by regression and it is very disturbing for their families. When you have a child who is progressing, has good eye contact, language and socialization and suddenly regresses, losing eye contact, language and is now engaged in more self stimulatory and sensory seeking behaviors, you must ask what is going on? With the holidays there are always special concerns to address regarding regression, the first is dietary infractions. Maybe over the holidays a child has gluten or dairy that they are not used to eating and that is contributing to regression. Another dietary issue over the holidays is increased sugar and artificial ingredients intake and that can also contribute to regression. Between school parties, parties at friends house, etc, there are more op...

The Gluten Free Casein Free Diet and Autism

The gluten free casein free diet is one that is very widely used on children with autism. Many people who had their children on the diet witnessed positive changes in their behavior. The diet is based on a hypothesis that because children with autism digest gluten and casein poorly, the gluten and casein form peptides, which affect his/her behavior, perceptions of and responses to the world around them. What are gluten and casein? Gluten and casein are proteins. Gluten is found in wheat products, and casein is found in dairy products. Caseinate is derived from casein and is sometimes hidden in other products. Gluten Free Casein Free Foods Removing gluten and casein from your child's diet might seem difficult, considering a majority of foods in the United States are made with gluten and/or casein. When choosing what to buy for your child, look at the ingredient label. Keep an eye out for ingredients like caseinate, lactose, curds or bran. Sometimes if vinegar i...

Can Autism Diets Help Recover a Child From Autism?

With autism among children rising to astounding rates of 1 in 150 children worldwide, it is the fastest growing childhood epidemic of our time. The number of children affected by this whole-body disorder is expected to rise even further over the next decade. According to research reports, more children will be diagnosed with autism this year than cancer, diabetes, Downs Syndrome and AIDS combined. Approximately 1 million individuals in the United States have autism---as of today, there is no known cause and no known cure. You know the statistics. You are keenly aware of how interesting your path has become-a life you didn't exactly imagine you would be in. You see the autism awareness ad campaigns on television. You hear a new president dedicate himself to helping children with autism through research dollars and insurance coverage requirements. You are connected to your local autism support group. You participate in lively debate over genetics, vaccines, ABA...

Choosing an Autism Diet For Recovery

The road to autism recovery begins with diet. That is, making calculated omissions and additions to food choices is the first step to improving children's health and well being. Certain food substances (most notably gluten and casein) are known to be problematic, and should be avoided - and other foods rich in healing nutrients are beneficial when added to children's diets. Attention to these factors is intended to balance biochemistry, affect systemic healing, and provide relief of autism symptoms. In simple terms, these are the underlying tenets of diets for autism. There are many "autism diets" to choose from and deciding how to begin nutritional intervention can seem overwhelming. Ten years ago, it was a simpler choice-do diet! And, "do diet" meant do the Gluten-free Casein-free Diet (GFCF). Eliminating gluten (the protein in wheat) and casein (the protein in dairy) was the primary focus of diet for autism for many years, and pro...

Autism Recovery in a Nutshell

Autism "Epidemic" Growing Worldwide We are in the middle of an epidemic of severe autism. Twenty-five years ago, the frequency of autism was affecting just one in every 100,000. Now this has increased to 1 in every 150, yet some sources affirm that it can be even higher than this. The way that clinical medical science is driven is the clinical history. You start with the patient's story or the parent's story of what happened to the child. What was heard is normal development followed by vaccine exposure followed by regression to autism and to gastrointestinal issues at around the same time. Regression means lost of acquired skills, i.e. a child could talk then lost the ability to talk. Questions about Autism & Vaccine Ingredients Many of us have heard a lot about thimerosal, mercury components, preservatives in vaccines, and live viral vaccines as a possible culprit. Today, many groups accuse thimerosal, a preservative for vaccines is a cont...
